Dr. Joan Fernandez, MD, serves patients in both the Forney, Texas and Plano, Texas areas as a board-certified Dermatologist and a fellowship trained Mohs Micrographic Surgeon specializing in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology.
Dr. Fernandez grew up in Tyler, Texas. She then went on to attend Texas Christian University as a Chancellor’s Scholar where she was named the Senior Honor Scholar for the Department of Biology, was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society and graduated Summa Cum Laude.
Dr. Fernandez completed medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. There, she became a member of the medical honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha, and graduated with Honors. During medical school, Dr. Fernandez published her research on the treatment of adult female acne in one of Dermatology’s most prestigious medical journals, the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.
Dr. Fernandez completed both her dermatology residency and fellowship in Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Dr. Fernandez is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and an active member of the American College of Mohs Surgeons, the American Society for Laser and Surgery Medicine, and the Texas Dermatologic Society.

Dr. Fernandez finds balance outside of work through her love for running, spending time outdoors, and creating memories with her husband, friends and family.
